Questions have also arisen regarding Norris’ college degree.

Norris is running against Jay Jones for the Republican Party nomination. The winner of the Aug. 3 primary will face incumbent Democrat Sheila Ernzen in the November general election.

Norris seemed to suggest that he is a certified public accountant on his campaign signs and other material.

Missouri’s Division of Professional Registration has a database of all certified public accountants in the state. Norris is not registered by the division.

Norris is also not listed as a certified public accountant in Kansas.

When contacted, Norris said his certification expired after he failed to meet the state’s continuing education requirement for accountants.

Norris said he passed Missouri’s certified public accountant’s exam in 2005.

People were spotted Monday, July 19, in Kansas City North painting over “CPA” on Norris’ campaign signs and replacing the letters with a red check mark.

Norris also claims to hold a degree in accounting from William Jewell College.

The college registrar, however, has no record of Norris’ degree, according to spokesman Robert Eisele. Norris was a student at the college, Eisele said.

Norris insists he did graduate with a degree from the college in 2004. He said he would post a copy of the degree on his campaign’s Facebook site.
