The Missouri Department of Labor’s Division of Employment Security has already begun preparing to administer the additional unemployment benefit extension, and will be notifying potentially eligible Missourians in the coming weeks, according to a press release.

Gov. Jay Nixon has signed into law a new set of economic incentives designed to help save the Ford Motor Co. plant in Claycomo.

The signing ceremony was held Thursday afternoon, July 15, at the United Auto Workers union hall just across the street from the Northland auto factory.

DED releases June 2010 state jobs report

Missouri’s labor market conditions continued to improve in June, according to data released July 12 by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Missouri’s nonfarm payroll employment increased by 3,600 jobs during the month, on a seasonally-adjusted basis, marking the fifth consecutive month of positive job growth in the state. Missouri’s net job growth since January 2010 now stands at 26,600, an average of 5,300 new jobs created each month.

The throttling of a Senate committee chairman allowed the Ford Motor Co. incentive bill — in neutral most of last week — to shift into high gear.

But Sen. Chuck Purgason, R-Caulfield, vowed to stand as a pothole on the road to passage by using his filibuster power.

A no-cost way to pay for the Ford Motor Co. incentive bill — without a controversial pension plan change — may simply gather dust.

The reason is that the pension and jobs incentive bills may be linked inextricably, politically, Sen. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, said.
