The Kearney Fire District will not use a federal staffing grant, but could consider another bond issue or levy increase election in April, the board voted 3-2 Monday, Aug. 31.

Because their regularly scheduled meeting fell on Labor Day, a federal holiday, the Kearney Board of Aldermen held their meeting one week early, on Monday, Aug. 31.

The Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District Board of Directors will have a workshop and special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the Kearney Fire Station, 201 E. Sixth St.

 
Bikers to stop in Kearney Aug. 30 PDF Print E-mail

The Honor Run cross-country motorcycle ride will stop in Kearney at about 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, and depart at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

The Kearney Police Department will be blocking intersections for the bikers to go to and from the Kearney Amphitheater and Interstate 35 during those times. The group will be traveling on Missouri Highway 33 (Jefferson Street) to Missouri Highway 92 (Sixth Street).

There will also be an auction at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Stables Grill in Kearney for the Honor Run. The Honor Run is raising money for a Fisher House, a place for wounded veterans’ families to stay while they seek medical care and rehabilitation.

Kearney running out of free building permits PDF Print E-mail

There are just a few free buildings permits left in Kearney.

As of Thursday, Aug. 6, there were eight remaining building permits for free to builders that meet certain criteria, and city officials expect a couple more permits to be gone soon.
