Through the first 24 games of the season, the Kearney girls basketball team averaged 45 points per game. In the final game of the regular season, the Bulldogs exploded for a regular-season high 63.

The Kearney and Staley girls basketball teams will do more than play a game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Staley. The two teams will play for cancer awareness.

Kearney girls basketball players and coaches are collecting donations this week for the special event. Donations will also be accepted the night of the game.

A winning record isn’t enough.

Despite owning a record above the .500 mark since the turn of the calendar to 2010, the Bulldogs continue to search for more. The exploration by the Kearney High girls basketball team has led to an alteration of roles by several players.

Most notably, only two of the five starters from the beginning of the season remain intact. And according to head coach Herb Webster, there’s no sure bet the revolving door is about to stop anytime soon.
